State waives hay-hauling fees

MONTGOMERY - The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and Alabama Department of Transportation are waiving permit fees for hauling hay, due to drought conditions, according to a release from the agriculture and industries department.

Haulers still must apply for a permit and comply with requirements, the release staets.

“The lack of rainfall and high temperatures are affecting livestock producers’ winter forage planting conditions, and the need to feed hay earlier in the season has started,” ADAI Commissioner Rick Pate said. “We hope waiving the permit fees will encourage more hay haulers to assist Alabama farmers and cattlemen.”

More information on about the hay permit is available by calling ALDOT's permit office at 1-800-499-2782 or visiting alpass.dot.state.al.us/permits/login.asp. Information on hay listings is available by calling ADAI at 334-240-7100.
