Man dies after Florence fire
FLORENCE - A Florence fire resutled in the death of a 61-year-old who was among three people in the house at the time, authorities said.
Jerry Nix died as a result of the Friday morning fire, which occurred at 2:40 a.m., Florence Fire Rescue Chief Tim Anerton said.
Smoke inhalation is the major cause of death, Anerton said.
He said firefighters were able to revive him at the scene so he could be taken to North Alabama Medical Center and transferred to University Hospital in Birmingham, but he ultimately died.
The cause is the fire, which occurred at 1132 Colorado Ave., is unknown. Fire officials said the fire started on the front porch.
